As we sit around the festive table this Yuletide weighed down by excesses of food , alcohol and taxidermied Animals please spare a thought for those less well off than yourselves.
Think about the people who through their own acts of selfless philanthropy now find themselves short of “a bob or two” -
Take for instance Professor Okko and Arnold Boyles .
It was following a recent Palace of Curiosities show that Professor Okko and Mr Arnold Boyles visited a local Hostelry and enjoyed copious amounts of fine (and cheap) beer. During this brief respite from Educating the masses , the idea of donating a sum of money for a worthwhile cause became the topic of conversation. It was no major leap of the imagination for both these veteran showmen fuelled by alcohol to quickly reach the conclusion that donating monies to save the skull of Mr Vasili Draganu made complete sense .
Mr Draganu originally From Rumania died in Bucharest about 150 years ago and his skull now languishes in a display case, unloved and uncared for in the Hyrtl skull collection at the Mutter Museum , Philadelphia USA.
With the modern power of the Internet and before reason (our wives)could give caution to our excessive gesture of international generosity our pledge (credit card details )was made .
We , The Palace of Curiosities, are now the proud Sponsors (we like to use the term “owner”) of Mr Vasili Draganu Skull. In due course the experts at The Mutter Museum in Philadelphia ,will use our donation to renovate Mr. Draganu and place a nice plaque next to him stating “saved by The Palace of Curiosities”.
This gentleman’s skull is of major International Historic Scientific importance - however this fact does not seem to be of any concern to our wives. We explained that after a nights heavy drinking that what we had done was socially responsible as our other option was to arrive home with a traffic cone and a Tesco Trolley - However this defence seems to have make things worse.
We therefore at the Palace of Curiosities will be designating 2014 as “ Skull Aid” – during which we will be holding a number of fund raising events to raise the $200 spent on saving Mr Vasili Draganu scientifically important Skull (and placating our wives) .
To start off this year of giving- we at The Palace of Curiosities will be giving you the opportunity to “Sponsor a Palace of Curiosities Curiosity” for a fiver ,(and as you will realise it is quite a bit cheaper than our American cousins charged us) You will have your name place on a label next to the designated Curiosity and a photo taken and Emailed , a certificate of sponsorship (emailed) ,you will also receive a photograph (emailed) of the Philadelphia Skull when Renovation is complete . If you wish to take part in this greatest act of giving since Live Aid you can click the Pay Pal button below which will deduct £5 from your account
Small Print -
Once the $200 is raised collecting will cease .all monies will be accounted . Copies of The receipt from Philadelphia Mutter museum is readily available. Remember a skull is for life not just for Christmas.
